Somewhat inspired by my mam, who buys tat at car boot sales and sells it for fun and profit on Ebay, myself and Emma have laid down a challenge! We went to a local car boot sale this morning, armed with 50 english pence, to procure something which we could re-sell on Ebay at a profit.
The idea is that we buy an item each, for 50p, and sell it on Ebay. Whatever profit we make on that item, we can use the following week to buy more 'stock' to sell on Ebay. The 'winner' is the person that's made the most moolah by my birthday, in July.
So, we went to the car boot sale in the centre of Sheffield this morning, which took a bit of finding as the powers that be have moved it from its usual place. Once we got there, we dug in and saw what our shiny 50's could get us.
The answer was…. unfortunately… not a lot. You've got to get up really early to get the bargains at these gigs. We arrived at about 9am, and, believe me, most of the stuff left was either total guff, obsecenly overpriced or pirate DVDs. We trawelled through a few stalls and were quickly getting disappointed with the wares on offer – really, most of this crap wants binning, I can't imagine that anyone is going to buy the free DVDs you get with newspapers at 2 quid a pop.
A few stalls in, and I make my play – I spot an original copy of Oasis' 3rd album, 'Be Here Now'. It stands out quite unlike most of the other disks on this particular stall – it's an original, and not a CD-R with a poorly photocopied cover. I offer my 50p in exchange, and the seller nods in agreement. Huzzah! Bargainicious! I foresee no problems shifting this on the magical Bay – after all, who'd not want to buy the *cough* mighty *cough* Oasis' third album? It's got 'All Around The World' on it ferchrissakes!
Emma, on the other hand, is a bit more choosey, and is being more patient in her approach. She eventually finds her way to a young lady, selling clothes. After a few minutes rifling through her rack of various clothes, she finds a black 'Hoi Polloi' vest-top with an interesting 'punk' design. She parts with her 50p and I can't help but feel I've been a bit over-eager, as I can see this top selling on Ebay with no problem at all.
So, they've both gone on Ebay today, and here's links to the auctions:
Remember people, bid early, bid often!
