Woke this morning to a Nagios chorus at something past 6. Too early, anyhow. Fixed the small issue, returned to the bedroom. I remembered yesterday that the BBC were harping on about there being heavy Snow and ‘Severe weather warnings’ and such forecast for today, so I take a peek around the curtains. No snow. Zero. Looked cold though.
I think nothing more of it and ducked back under the covers. Dragged myself out of bed after 8 feeling distinctly ropey. In the hour or so, a light dusting of snow has settled outside – hardly a national emergency. Typical media. My throat feels like there’s razorblades stuck down there. Necked the last of Emma’s Buttercup Syrup (literally only a mouthful), and went to work.
As the day drags on, I feel more ill. My right nostril just won’t stop running. It’s like a constant stream of gook that I just can’t stop. Drove the office crazy with sniffing and sneezing. Decided to get some feel-good lunch, and drove with little Joe to Masterchef*, down the road in Attercliffe.
(* – I’d provide a link, but it doesn’t appear that they have a website, sadly)
When the company I worked for was based near Masterchef, we’d take it in turns to go there to pick up lunch – it beat the ‘Proper’ pasty wagon into submission anyhow. But, since the company’s relocation, and our department’s subsequent re-relocation, I’ve not been back to Masterchef, so I was eager to see if the food was as good as I remembered.
It appears that they’ve expanded – and now take up two shop-fronts, with a sit-in cafe on one site, and the take-away counter on the other. We both order chicken curry, and for £2.50, it’s a bloody bargain. Lovely. I think I’ll go again for lunch tomorrow.
Especially so as the in-house cafe in our serviced offices is in a bit of a state of flux at the moment. The previous cafe operators have given up the lease at Christmas, and new people are apparently moving in – which leaves us office tenants with a half-working cafe that serves some piss-poor food. Not to mention the price – £3.75 for some very dull chilli and rice! Ridiculous. One only hopes the new operators can sort it out.
The nice lunch, complete with Vitamin A,C & E Carrot and Orange juice, restores some health points for a hour or two, but it’s not long before I’m feeling decidedly unwell again. There’s lots of talk of this ‘Norovirus’ doing the rounds, but I’m not sure this is the same thing. I’m not suffering sickness or diarrhoea (at least, not yet – just a general malaise, sniffy nose, sore throat and a bit of a headache. I guess it’s just a cold, hopefully it’ll clear up soon.
