No Answers, Only Sainsbury's
Sun, 03/02/2008 - 23:08
Aimee must've been reading the blog - a lie in! At last! We actually had to go in and wake her at 10:30 - the paternal instinct kicking in, unnecessarily worrying about the lass with it being quite out of character for her to sleep this long. Thankyou, Aimee. The lie in was lovely.
The rest of the day is filled with the usual weekend chores and a trip to Sainsbury's for the weekly shop. Not been to Sainsbury's for ages - with it being on the other side of the city makes it less than handy, especially when there's a Morrison's only a stone's throw away. You'd think a city the size of Sheffield would have at least a couple of large Sainsbury's, but I can only think of the supermarket in the south of the city on Abbeydale Road (where we went), and the little one on The Moor. Whereas, there's at least two Asda's and three Morrison's within easy reach of the north of the city. Silly really.
Bought far too much, really - always the way when you go to an unfamiliar supermarket, and you end up buying loads of bits and bobs that don't appear in your local supermarket. Decide to take a packed lunch to work more often - the cafe at work has been a total rip-off, which is probably costing me a small fortune every week.
I wouldn't mind so much if the cafe was any good, but it was always shite - same menu every day, tiny amount of choice, £3.75 for some crappy 'chilli' and rice is a complete rip-off. It's probably for these reasons that they appear to have been forced out, and new operators have been brought in. Their new menu came through the other day and it looks like prices are up, again, though the promise of quality and larger choice are in offing. I'm voting with my feet, however, and am resolving to bring in a packed lunch most days.
Watched the first episode of the fourth series of Lost today. Literally every bus shelter and advertising hoarding in Sheffield is taken up by Sky One's advertising for the show, saying 'ANSWERS FOUND' - well, I can report that the fourth series has kicked off, and I have only more questions and not one answer. We still don't know the answer to 1st series questions like "What is the significance of the number sequence?", "Why did Hugo (Hurley) win the lottery with the numbers?" and, my personal favourite - "Why did the plane crash?".
Sure, you're all gonna say - "the plane crashed because Desmond didn't get back to the hatch on time and the 'magnetic anomaly' pulled it down to the island" - except that this implies that the crash was an accident, caused by Desmond's inaction - doesn't that fly in the face of the whole 'pre-ordained' nature of the show - the numbers, the dharma initiative, flight 815, etc? If it's an accident - how do Hurley's lottery numbers end up on the hatch door?
Anyhow, that's enough Lost theorizing for today - no doubt I'll end up glued to the TV every Sunday evening for the foreseeable future, just like the last 3 series. God help me when Heroes starts up again!
The cafe at work seems to be quite nice, in it's new form.
Polite staff, cheap(er) coffee and fab warm chocolate muffins that actually taste fresh.
It will be interesting to see what the hot food (none on offer today) is like once they have settled in.
All those things happened because they were in the script.
*ahem*
