Utility Belts

I'll make it short and sweet; it's time for bed, and I'm ready for it.

An old work colleague, Tim, who I worked with for longer than I care to remember! - dropped in to see Aimee and I on his way back from a business trip to Middlesbrough today. He just caught Aimee, just before I was about to take her up to bed.

She wasn't sure what to make of him - she doesn't really see that many 'strangers' in the house very often, and she was initially very, very shy. To be fair to her, Tim is exceptionally odd, but in a nice way! Given a few minutes and a few funny faces pulled, and she was blowing him kisses in no time at all!

Tim was showing off his new toy - an ASUS eeePC ultraportable laptop. I've played with one of these before, a few months ago at work when they first launched. I wasn't overly impressed with the review model I played with - but Tim's 4G matt black one really looked the part.

Neat toy, but I still don't quite buy the fascination with using 7-8 year-old technology (667Mhz Celeron CPUs) in a compact laptop. Of course, being Tim he plans to borgify it and hack it open and add all sorts of gizmos, like GPS, 3G, usb hubs and extra storage - he's already figured out a Bluetooth add-on, and he only got the eee PC yesterday...

Good to see the old chap again - pity it was only a cup of tea and a chat, and not a few jars down the pub.
